Broad Street Bridge disaster photograph   Save
Columbus Dispatch Photograph Collection
Description: The Broad Street Bridge (Columbus, Ohio) roadbed and railing failure on west end of the bridge is visible on the left hand side of the photograph. During a downpour on August 21, 1947, a bolt of lightning struck the bridge, causing a portion of it to explode. Four pedestrians fell into the Scioto River; one of them died the following day. No cars fell into the river. Built after the 1913 flood, the Broad Street Bridge was demolished in 1990 and replaced by the Discovery Bridge. View on Ohio Memory.
