Description: People viewing the damaged Broad Street Bridge (Columbus, Ohio) roadbed and railing failure on west e nd of the bridge, south side. A bolt of lightning struck the bridge on August 21, 1947, causing a section of it to explode. Four pedestrians fell into the Scioto River; one of them died the next day. No cars fell into the water. Constructed after the devastating 1913 flood, the Broad Street Bridge was demolished in 1990 and replaced by the Discovery Bridge. View on Ohio Memory.
