Description: A view of the damaged Broad Street Bridge from the west end of the bridge looking east toward downtown Columbus, Ohio. On August 21, 1947. a bolt of lightning struck the bridge, causing a portion of it to explode. Four pedestrians fell into the Scioto River; one of them died the next morning. No cars fell into the water. Built in 1913, the Broad Street Bridge was demolished in 1990 and replaced by the Discovery Bridge. View on Ohio Memory.
