Description: This photograph depicts Oscar Kelton, a member of a prominent Columbus family, in his Civil War uniform. Born in 1843, he served as a lieutenant in the 95th Ohio Volunteer Infantry (O.V.I.), Company A, in various parts of the south, including Kentucky, Tennessee, and Mississippi. He was killed in the Battle of Brice's Crossroads near Guntown, Mississippi on June 10, 1864. The Kelton House, built by Oscar's parents Fernando and Sophia Kelton, was a station on the Underground Railroad and is now a historic museum and garden in Columbus. View on Ohio Memory.
