Johnson's Island Collection 1861-1866
Description: Letter from William M. Rives to his sister, Millie, dated May 31st, 1863. Other letters in this collection concern his capture on May 4, 1863, in Kentucky, his time at Camp Chase, and his later stay at Johnson's Island Prison Camp. Conditions of the Johnson's Island camp are compared with those at Camp Chase, and in his letters of June 15, 1863, and June 25, 1863, he favors the Island camp over the inland one. Along with the conditions of the camp, personal problems are discussed in the letters. View on Ohio Memory.
