Clinton League Memory Book
Description: Photograph of members of the Clinton League who were involved with the "Pageant of the Years" put on December 14, 1938. This group performed in the first of five "episodes" in the pageant titled "A Gay Christmas Party." This segment included music, conversation and costumes representing the period from 1840-1860. The standing women are identified as Miss Badgley, Mrs. Gatewood, Mrs. Mayo Delzell, Mrs. Blackman, Mrs. Campbell and Mrs. Clouse. Seated are Mrs. Cottrell, Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Cresap, Mrs. W.A. Stevenson, and Mrs. Dustman. This image was included in a "Memory Book" compiled by Mrs. Mary Schafer, historian for the Clinton League (earlier called the Clinton Welfare League) from 1948-1953. The book shows the development of the Clintonville neighborhood of Columbus, Ohio, between 1938 and 1953, and records the history of the League. The Clinton League was a women's group founded in 1912 to promote child welfare and later general welfare in Columbus, but which was based in and primarily focused on the area of Clintonville.
