Description: This proclamation, signed by Governor Jacob D. Cox, contains an impression of the new seal of the state of Ohio. Also included is a narrative description of the seal, which featured a bundle of seventeen arrows representing Ohio's admission to the Union as the seventeenth state, and a sheaf of wheat. In the first seal of Ohio, created in 1847, a canal ran through the center. The current seal was adopted in 1967. View on Ohio Memory.
