Wonderful World of Ohio
Description: Comedian and television talk show host Johnny Carson is shown in these two photographs performing at the Ohio State Fair in 1968. Carson (b. 1925) made television ratings history as host of "The Tonight Show" on NBC from 1962 to 1992. Sidekick Ed McMahon's introduction of "Here's Johnny" became a signature of the show, as did Carson's monologue and skits such as "Carnac the Magnificent" and "Stump the Band." Carson won several Emmys for his work on "The Tonight Show" and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1992 and the Kennedy Center Honors Lifetime Achievement Award in 1993. The photographs measure 2" x 2" (5.08 x 5.08 cm). View on Ohio Memory.
