Description: This 2.75" x 2.75" (6.99 x 6.99 cm) slide of Governor James Rhodes (1909-2001) at Bob Evans' farm in Gallia County, Ohio was taken around 1966. Restaurant entrepreneur Bob Evans (b. 1918) was born in Sugar Ridge, Ohio. Evans and his wife Jewell began farming near Rio Grande, Ohio, where they raised six children. Evans also owned a small diner in Gallipolis, and began making his own sausage in 1948. Fueled by the success of his sausage, Bob Evans Restaurant opened in 1962. Evans retired from the company in 1986. In 2004, Bob Evans Restaurants owned 549 restaurants in 22 states. After his retirement, Evans remained active in supporting 4-H and Future Farmers of America and working to preserve the environment. View on Ohio Memory.
