Description: This map shows an outline of Columbus in Franklin County, Ohio. It is taken from Joseph Caldwell's "Atlas of Franklin County and of the city of Columbus, Ohio," published in 1872. Streets, rivers, rail lines, and businesses are documented, and locations of notable buildings and institutions are noted in a "References" section which identifies them by letter. Additional properties of note include the County Fair Grounds, the Ohio State Capitol, the Deaf and Dumb Asylum, Ohio Penitentiary, the U.S. Arsenal, and the State Agricultural College Grounds (now the Ohio State University).
