Description: Dated to 1895, this wool and silk comforter was made by Minnie Lorenz in Marietta, Washington County, Ohio, and dates from 1895. This pieced comforter was made in the Log Cabin pattern. There are eight rows of eight blocks. Each block is divided diagonally with half dark and half bright. There is a red square in the center of each. The long sides of each bright half block are adjacent to long sides of other bright half blocks, forming sixteen squares on point. There are nine dark squares on point, twelve dark half squares and four dark quarter squares. The striped border is light gray and black. The comforter is backed with red wool and tied together.
