Description: Carte de visite of Lt. William M. Atkinson, who served with Company B of the 77th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Company B was recruited from Noble and Washington Counties, Ohio. Atkinson was originally from Aurelius Township, Washington County, Ohio. He signed up for a 3-year term on November 14, 1861, at the age of 20. Appointed corporal on March 20, 1862, and as a sergeant on September 25, 1862. Captured at Mark's Mills, Arkansas, on April 25th, 1864. Promoted to lieutenant on March 29, 1865, and mustered out on March 8, 1866. View on Ohio Memory.
