Description: Dated ca. 1900, this photograph shows Fountain Square in Cincinnati in Hamilton County, Ohio. At the center, a man sells newspapers, and to either side of the square are shops and offices, including Nelson's on the right., as well as streetcars. Fountain Square was the location of an American Indian mound before Europeans settled the area. Since its construction in 1871, Fountain Square has been considered to be the symbolic center of Cincinnati. View on Ohio Memory.
