Description: Author-conservationist Louis Bromfield with Multiflora Rose, Malabar Farm, Richland County, Ohio, ca. 1940-1949. Planting of Multiflora Rose was encouraged by the U.S. Soil Conservation Service in the 1930s to stop soil erosion and as a "living fence" to control livestock. Because of its dense growing habits, it is now being eradicated. View on Ohio Memory.
