Description: This 5-ton explosion tested gathering locomotive was built by the Jeffrey Manufacturing Company, Columbus, Ohio. It moved at a maximum speed of approximately 5 miles per hour. The drivers right hand is holding the controller which regulated the speed of the locomotive. Electrical power was supplied to the locomotive by way of the pickup trolley boom to an overhead power line. The long line of coal-filled mine cars was called a "trip".
