Description: 10 foot mechanical draft fans made by the Jeffrey Manufacturing Company of Columbus, Ohio and used by the Penn Coal Company, Pittston, Pennsylvania, 1922. The photograph shows that these fans were powered by two steam engines. Fans like these were used to force fresh air into mines for miners to breathe and to dissipate dangerous gasses.
