Jeffrey A-6 Drill   Save
Jeffrey Manufacturing Company Collection
Description: A-6 electric drill made by the Jeffrey Manufacturing Company of Columbus, Ohio in use at a coal mine in Herrin, Illinois, 1937. Using a long drill bit, miners drilled a series of holes into the face of the coal seam. Explosive charges were placed in the many holes and detonated, "shooting down" a wall of coal from the seam. Jeffrey loaders could then fill pit cars with coal and remove the coal from the mine. View on Ohio Memory.
