Description: A photograph showing a man working in front of a large industrial funnel. The photograph is labeled with a underlined title "WEIGHING THE SOAP FOR MILLING" and the following caption: "Preparatory to milling, flakes of Camay which have been formed by passing the liquid soap over a chilling roll are measured and them mixed with perfume in an amalgamator" Camay is the name of a scented hand and body soap, made by Procter & Gamble. It was first introduced in 1926 and marketed as a "white, pure soap for women, " as many soaps of the time were colored to mask impurities. William Procter, a candle maker, and James Gamble, a soap maker, formed the company known as Procter & Gamble in 1837. It is still headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio. View on Ohio Memory.
