: Sir Joshua Reynolds (1723-1792) was an influential English painter of the 18th century who specialized in portraits, promoting the "Grand Style" in painting, which depended on the idealization of the imperfect. He was one of the founders and first president of the Royal Academy. In his appreciation of his work, George III knighted him in 1769.
His painting of Mrs John Weyland and her son John hangs in the Taft Museum of Art in Cincinnati View on Ohio Memory.
