Cleveland street scene photograph   Save
Ohio Guide Photographs
Description: The Federal Writers' Project street scene is a genre to itself, its subjects comprising a counterpoint to the collection's historic landmarks: storefront signage, fires, traffic, and, as here, men on a street corner. After the Second World War, Cleveland photographer Jasper Wood would continue to document the Scovill Avenue scene. Sign above doorway reads, in part, "5 Anniversary of the Cooperative." Site of this photograph is now part of the campus of Cuyahoga Community College. Reverse reads: "Nothin' Much To Do (The Lucky People!); Scovill Avenue at East 32 Street Cleveland on a fairly warm afternoon. District #4 Cleveland, Ohio. Photograph by: John Steinke, 1940.
