Description: This photograph is a view of Blennerhasset Island at sunset. Blennerhasset Island, originally called Backus Island, is located in the Ohio River. Originally an Indian settlement, Elija Backus purchased the island in 1792 and the name was changed to Blennerhasset after Harman Blennerhasset, a figure in the Aaron Burr treason conspiracy. Harman Blennerhasset purchased the island in 1798. It is the location of the Blennerhasset House, the place where Burr and Blennerhasset allegedly plotted treason against the United States. The island in now the site of the Blennerhasset Island Historical State Park. View on Ohio Memory.
