Mine sealing - air trap seal   Save
Ohio Guide Photographs
Description: Reverse reads: "The trap - the finished job of mine sealing near East Springfield, Jefferson County. Presented by Mr. S. M. Ripley." Air trap seals, also known as wet seals, were installed extensively through the Works Progress Administration's mining sealing project. Wet seals are usually made of concrete block, with either a hole, or a pipe to allow for water drainage. Long term effectiveness of these were limited however, due to debris clogging the exit, and/or collapse, so the design was changed. View on Ohio Memory.
