Description: This illustration shows Main Street in Zanesville, Ohio, drawn by Henry Howe in 1846 and included in his 1888 book "Historical Collections of Ohio." The County Courthouse is on the left side of the image--this structure was originally intended to be the Ohio Statehouse, but was only used for two sessions before the capital was relocated to Columbus. The Eagle Hotel is on the right side of the image, and McIntyre Academy can be seen on a hill in the background. View on Ohio Memory.
