Description: This is a photograph of a drawing of Rutherford B, Hayes, drawn by the artist Seay. It was not used as a chapter heading in the Ohio Guide. Rutherford B. Hayes, (October 4 1822 - January 17, 1893) served as the 19th President of the United States. His one term was from 1877 to 1881. His term began towards the end of Reconstruction and went in the beginning of the Second Industrial Revolution. Hayes was born in Ohio, practiced law in Lower Sandusky (not Fremont) and returned to Fremont after his presidency. He and his family lived at Spiegel Grove in Fremont, a home built by his uncle and guardian, Sardis Birchard. He died at Spiegel Grove in 1893. View on Ohio Memory.
